Clínica DKF and the OAFI Foundation have just signed a collaboration agreement to promote the prevention, treatment and improvement of the quality of life of people with osteoarthritis, encouraging patients and agents involved (patient associations around the world, medical and scientific societies, industry, research centres and public administrations) to work together to tackle this chronic disease and seek new solutions and treatments.
Both institutions are committed to collaborate in carrying out national and international research projects in the field of regenerative medicine in joint health and sports medicine, fields in which Clínica DKF is a leader, such as in research and application of treatments, sport and health, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, research on muscles and tendons, nutrition and dietary and food supplements.
Clínica DKF and OAFI will promote information and social awareness campaigns for the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis, as well as promote social programmes aimed at prevention and education for the different risk groups in the areas of joint health, exercise and nutrition.
Osteoarthritis is a little-recognized disease but affects more than 242 million people worldwide. Despite its social impact, it is seen as a distant pathology, associated with old age. However, in addition to affecting the elderly, it is increasingly detected in post-menopausal women, athletes and even young people.
Osteoarthritis directly affects people’s mobility and autonomy, with the psychological wear and tear this entails. In addition, it is associated with other co-morbidities such as hypertension or cardiovascular disease among others.
In a society in which the life expectancy of the population is getting longer and longer, this type of ailment should be considered a major concern.
OAFI is a non-profit organization with the objective of leading the fight against osteoarthritis by promoting education, prevention, treatment and research into everything that happens in joint health and offer solutions to people suffering from this pathology so that they feel supported, alleviate their pain and improve their quality of life.
